Happy New Year!
Writing this in the balmy October autumn, I do hope we are not soon shovelling snow!  However, it is the longer days and colder weather that sends me once more on the search for new volunteers to join the BSG to help our community.
With a wide range of opportunities, would you consider sharing your time with someone who needs a bit of extra help?  Could you spare even a half an hour a month?

Happy New Year!

Writing this in the balmy October autumn I do hope we are not soon shovelling snow!

It is the longer days and colder weather that sends me once more on the search for new volunteers to help our community.

With a wide range of opportunities, would you consider sharing your time with someone who needs a bit of extra help?  Could you spare even a half an hour a month?

“Can you drop me at the Doctor please? I have to see the nurse, I need an eye test in Wellington, my false teeth are playing me up can you pop me into the dentist please?”

Could you take someone on your shopping trip with you?  One of our volunteers with a young baby regularly took an extra person on her weekly shop.  The people who need our help are independent but transport is a major issue in our rural communities.

“I am the main carer for my loved one, but I need a little time for me”
Could you sit with someone to give a carer a break?

Could you help with crèche, enabling parents to attend a course on ‘Coping with kids?’

And, last but not least, we need volunteers to train with the Chiropodist to cut toenails.  This is not everyone’s cup of tea but, for the small band of volunteers who do it, it gives great satisfaction and makes a huge difference to an elderly person who can no longer manage this.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
MAKE THIS A HAPPY NEW YEAR
FOR SOMEONE IN YOUR COMMUNITY
