HeLiC – Healthy Living in The Community – was fully launched last week when its constitution was formally accepted by the membership.

The aim of the organisation is to promote healthy living for all age groups in the Blackdown Hills community, by means of information, education, group meetings, clinics and personal support.

Ahead of its formal launch, HeLiC had already become involved with the successful setting up of the Blackdown Hills Breathe Easy Group and is currently working on a plan to launch a pre-diabetes patient support group. HeLiC will work closely with healthcare professionals especially the Blackdown GP Practice and NHS.

Founding HeLiC Chairman Jonathan Meads who is a retired GP said patient groups are important for several reasons but two are particularly important. Firstly it’s about helping each other supportively and secondly it is about having a mutual confidence to make strong representation to the NHS to see our patient services improve.
