Links have been forged between Hemyock Baptist Church and a church that nestles in the foothills of the Andes Mountains of Peru.

Pastor Isaias Calle met with Hemyock parishioners last week to bring greetings from his church, the Evengelica Iglesia Peruana, during a weekend visit to Hemyock with his wife Olga and son Oliver.

He outlined the type of work his church has become involved in, in a country area of Peru where education and healthcare are for the minority.

Pastor Calle said: "Strong family units exist where young and old are cared for, but the church also runs an elderly person's home for up to 32 people for whom such security no longer existed."

The church also offers limited healthcare for disadvantaged people

The initial link to Peru was made via the sister of church member Vivienne Berkley who was a missionary to Peru some years ago.

Pastor Steven Reed said: "The church has taken the Calle family to their hearts and we look forward to maintaining a link with their church, for these links display the interconnectedness of God's worldwide family."
